A former practicing anesthesiologist and professor, Dr. Wong brings more than two decades of experience and leadership from the business and healthcare industry.
Dr. Wong's proven knowledge and business expertise in the technology and healthcare industry has been significant in developing strategic direction in group purchasing consortiums, managed health care and establishing strategic relationships within the managed care HMO industry. Prior to forming Renal Payer Services with Dr. Jerome Tannenbaum, Dr. Wong formed and managed MedCare Partners Health Plan in partnership with Bright Healthcare.
MedCare Partners is one of the first Asian-centric Restricted Knox Keene Medicare Advantage plans in California. Prior to his time at MedCare Partners, Dr. Wong worked in the executive suite at Alignment Healthcare as Strategic General Manager as well as Regional Vice President of Alignment’s Choice Health plan. He was the co-founder and Chairman of PremierCare IPA and PremierCare Health Services Corp. in Southern California, where he led a group of physicians in the managed care environment anchored by the IHHI hospital system.
Before Dr. Wong entered the managed care arena, he was the president of Enqwest Corporation, a joint venture purchasing consortium in partnership with MedAssets. In addition to his experience in the U.S. healthcare industry, Dr. Wong has also served in numerous executive roles in other companies serving as the executive director, board member and co-founder of Pharmedex Incorporated – a Japan KK, where he helped form the company business plan, created a partnership with the Health Services Corporation of America and played an integral role in contract negotiations between supply chain participants of Japan's $88 billion pharmaceutical wholesale and distribution industry.
Dr. Wong holds three U.S. Patents for medical devices in the field of anesthesiology airway management. Dr. Wong received a certificate of residency in anesthesiology at Loma Linda University Medical Center, a doctorate in medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in 1991 and a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987 from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles CA.
